Cook Islands Hotels – Finding the Right Place at the Right Price
Cook Islands hotels range from very basic accommodations to the highest level of luxury including overwater bungalows. The accommodations in the islands are usually cheaper than in the more touristy places such as Tahiti or Fiji. To appreciate the differences between the islands fully, it is best to look at them individually. The two most visited islands are Rarotonga and Aitutaki. Of these two, Rarotonga is by far the most advanced as far as accommodations is concerned. Aitutaki is slowly developing more options for visitors to use. Let’s begin looking at the options available at Rarotonga.
Rarotonga is the chief island. The Cook Islands hotels available on this island provide the most options for travelers. Those that want to experience life on the islands at the cheapest price will find hostels that offer basic bed and kitchen facilities. For those that want a step up from that, the Edgewater Resort and Spa provides a nice place to stay that welcome visitors of all ages. Some apartments are available for those that want to do some of their own cooking. Above this are the more luxurious accommodations from places such as the Rarotongan Beach Resort and Spa. This accommodation offers a pool and air-conditioning, with a restaurant attached. Bungalows are also available.
An alternative for Rarotonga is Aitutaki. Aitutaki is slowly developing more accommodations for visitors. The Cook Islands hotels on this island show the growing interest in the island. The largest and most luxurious is the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa located on Motu Akitua. It is, in fact, the only thing on that island. It is minutes from the mainland. It offers everything a visitor could want from wonderful dining to sports activities to tours. For those with a bit less money, there is a variety of small bungalows, overwater bungalows available along with apartments. One option is Rino’s Beach Bungalows. They offer both garden apartments and villas near Ureia Village. For those on a cheap budget, Josie’s Lodge offers backpacker accommodations.
Cook Islands hotels on other islands are much scarcer. Some provide small bungalows. Others provide lodging in private homes. There are house for let in some places. A few require visitors to bring their own boat to sleep in. Each visitor has choices to make on where they want to visit and what sort of accommodations is available to them. The choice of accommodation will not diminish the natural beauty of these islands however.
